Roof repairs in Peterborough

Slipped tiles, crumbling ridges, worn valleys and failed flashings fixed properly, first time. We photograph the fault before we quote, so you see exactly what needs doing.

What we do

Every common roof repair, done to current standards

For homeowners, landlords and commercial property across Peterborough, South Lincolnshire and the East Midlands.

Slipped & cracked tiles

Broken, slipped or missing tiles and slates replaced and mechanically fixed, matched as closely as possible to your roof.

Ridge & hip repairs

Loose or cracked ridge and hip tiles re-bedded, or upgraded to a dry-fix system so they are mechanically fixed, not just held by mortar.

Verges

Crumbling verge mortar repointed, or replaced with a dry verge system that needs far less maintenance.

Valleys

Worn or split valley troughs (lead, GRP or mortar-bedded) replaced, one of the most common sources of leaks.

Flashings

Leaking lead or mortar flashings around chimneys, walls and roof windows replaced with correctly lapped lead.

Fascias, soffits & gutters

Rotten fascias, blocked or sagging gutters and leaking joints repaired or replaced while access is up.

Expert guide

Repair or replace? How to decide

Most roofs that leak do not need replacing. In our experience, the majority of leaks come from a small number of weak points: slipped tiles, cracked ridge mortar, worn valleys and failed flashings. Fixing the cause is usually far cheaper than a new roof.

A repair is usually right when

  • the problem is in one area, such as a ridge, valley, chimney or a few tiles
  • the roof timbers are dry and sound when checked from the loft
  • most tiles are intact and not flaking or porous

Replacement is worth considering when

  • tiles are failing across the whole roof, or the original felt underlay has perished
  • repairs would cost more than about a quarter of a new roof
  • the roof line is sagging or timbers are rotten

Why mortar-only repairs keep failing

Since the updates to BS 5534, the British Standard for slating and tiling, mortar can no longer be relied on as the only way of fixing ridge, hip and single-lap tiles. They must be mechanically fixed, and the standard now covers repairs and re-roofing too. We repair to this standard, which is why our ridge and verge repairs last.

Why you should not go up yourself

The HSE reports that almost one in five deaths in construction involve roof work. Check your roof from the ground with binoculars, or from the loft with a torch, and leave the rest to a roofer with proper access equipment.

FAQs

Roof repairs: your questions answered

Can't see your question? Call 0800 193 9030 or send us a message.

How much does a roof repair cost in Peterborough?

Small repairs, such as replacing a few slipped or cracked tiles, usually cost £170–£460. Re-bedding or dry-fixing a full ridge is typically £500–£1,400, and a new valley £700–£1,700. We photograph the problem first and give you a fixed written price.

Can you repair just one part of a roof?

Yes. Most leaks come from one area, such as a ridge, valley, chimney or a few tiles. We repair that area to current standards and check the rest of the roof while we are up there.

How quickly can you repair my roof?

Small repairs are usually booked within a few days and completed in a single visit. If water is coming in, see our emergency roof repair service and we will make it watertight as a priority.

Can roof tiles be matched?

Usually, yes. Most concrete and clay tiles are still made or available reclaimed. Where an exact match is not possible, we use the closest match on a less visible slope and move original tiles to the front.

Is it worth repairing an old roof?

If the timbers are sound and most tiles are intact, yes. A repair is usually far better value. If tiles are failing across the whole roof or the underlay has perished, we will tell you honestly that replacement is the better long-term option.

Why does my ridge keep coming loose?

Ridges bedded only on mortar crack as the roof moves and weathers. BS 5534 now requires ridge and hip tiles to be mechanically fixed. Upgrading to a dry-fix ridge system stops the problem coming back.

Do roof repairs need building regulations approval?

Repairs to a small part of a roof normally do not. Approval is needed for larger re-roofs, structural changes, or a heavier or different covering. We will tell you if anything applies to your job.

Do you guarantee roof repairs?

Yes. Every repair comes with a 10-year written guarantee. It is written up and handed to you on the spot when the job is signed off.
