Modern Slavery Statement
We have zero tolerance of slavery, forced labour and human trafficking in our business and our supply chain. This statement sets out the steps we take to prevent it.
1. Our commitment
Upsize Property Renovation Ltd is committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct. In line with the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we have a zero-tolerance approach to forced labour, debt bondage, child labour and human trafficking in our operations and supply chain.
We are below the turnover threshold that makes a statement a legal requirement. We publish this statement voluntarily because our clients, particularly housing providers and public bodies, expect it, and because it is the right thing to do.
2. Our business and supply chain
We are a private limited company based in Peterborough, delivering kitchens, bathrooms, wet rooms and roofing for social housing, commercial and residential clients across Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and the East Midlands.
- Direct staff: management, supervision, administration and core trades.
- Subcontractors: specialist trades such as electricians, plumbers, plasterers and roofers.
- Suppliers: UK builders’ merchants and manufacturers for materials.
Because we rely on subcontracted labour, rigorous due diligence on our supply chain is essential.
3. Risk assessment
| Area | Risk level | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Internal operations | Low | UK-based, directly managed, with right-to-work checks and fair pay. |
| Subcontracted labour | Medium | Construction labour is a recognised higher-risk sector for exploitation. |
| Materials supply chain | Medium | Raw materials and manufactured products may come from higher-risk countries. |
4. Policies that support this statement
| Policy | What it does |
|---|---|
| Ethical labour | Fair pay (at least the National Minimum or Living Wage), safe conditions and freely chosen work for everyone who works for us. |
| Right to work | Right-to-work checks on every employee before they start, in line with UK law. |
| Supplier and subcontractor requirements | Contractual requirements to meet labour, safety and environmental standards and to comply with the Modern Slavery Act. |
| Whistleblowing | Confidential channels for anyone to report concerns without fear of retaliation (see our Whistleblowing Policy). |
5. Due diligence: subcontractor vetting
- Contractual obligations: every subcontractor agrees in writing to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
- On-site checks: unannounced checks by project managers on welfare, hours and working conditions.
- Labour transparency: subcontractors must provide evidence of their workers’ legal right to work and how they are paid on request.
Warning signs we brief our teams on include workers who appear controlled by others, who do not hold their own ID documents, who seem to be paid nothing or very little, or who are transported to site as a group by a third party.
