Safeguarding Policy
Much of our work takes place in occupied homes, including those of children, older people and adults at risk. Everyone who works for us has a duty to keep them safe.
1. Our commitment
Upsize Property Renovation Ltd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk, in line with the Children Act 1989 and 2004 and the Care Act 2014. We work with our clients and local authority safeguarding teams to protect residents from harm.
2. Designated safeguarding lead
Our designated safeguarding lead is the Director, Alexandru Balan (alex@upsizeproperty.com). All concerns must be reported to the safeguarding lead on the same day.
3. Code of conduct in residents’ homes
- Carry ID at all times and show it before entering a home
- Treat residents, their families and their homes with respect
- Avoid being alone with a child or adult at risk wherever possible; leave doors open and stay in the work area
- Never accept money, gifts or favours, and never give personal contact details or connect with residents on social media
- Never take photographs of residents, and photograph only the work area
- No smoking, vaping, swearing or loud music in or around the home
- Never enter a home if only an unaccompanied child is present
4. Safe recruitment
We check identity, right to work and references for everyone we employ. Operatives working in occupied homes for housing providers hold a DBS check at the level our clients require. Subcontractors working in occupied homes must meet the same standard.
5. Recognising and reporting concerns
Warning signs can include unexplained injuries, neglect, a resident who seems frightened of someone, a home in very poor condition, or a resident who appears confused and unsupported. If you see or hear something that worries you:
- If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
- Do not investigate yourself or confront anyone.
- Write down what you saw or heard, with the date and time, in the person’s own words where possible.
- Report it to the safeguarding lead the same day.
- The safeguarding lead will refer the concern to our client (for example, the housing provider) and to the local authority safeguarding team.
6. Allegations against workers
Any allegation against an employee or subcontractor is taken seriously, reported to the client and, where appropriate, the local authority designated officer (LADO) or the police. The person will be removed from work in occupied homes while the matter is investigated.
7. Training and review
All operatives receive safeguarding awareness at induction, and the policy is reviewed annually by the Director.
This policy is issued by Upsize Property Renovation Ltd (Company no. 15856524, registered office 4 Blenheim Court, Suite 595, Peterborough, PE1 2DU). It is available to employees, subcontractors and clients, and a signed copy is available on request. Questions: alex@upsizeproperty.com.
